The French subsidiary of the German cement manufacturer Heidelberg is investing 450 million euros to decarbonize four of its nine cement plants.
The most massive investment, in Deux-Sèvres, aims to eliminate coal and oil production.
Ciments Calcia will replace them with alternative fuels, ie solid recovered fuels (SRF): household, agricultural and industrial waste around the plant.
These massive investments respond to a desire to display a more ambitious carbon footprint than its competitors, at 400 kg of carbon per ton of cement in 2030, instead of an average of 629 kg today.
