57 - Solvay brings its production of innovative green solvent back to France
The Solvay group, a major player in chemistry and advanced materials, is relocating to France, to Melle in the two Sèvres, the production of an innovative green solvent Rhodiasolv® Iris, until now carried out in China. A historic investment for the Deux-Sévrien factory, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Iris is both biodegradable and non-toxic to humans. It will replace a solvent used in particular in industry for cleaning metal parts, which is carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic for reproduction. The Iris manufacturing process also generates ammonium sulphate, a fertilizer that will be integrated into the local agricultural sector.
