67 - Viridian to build the first French factory producing lithium for batteries in the heart of Europe
Supported by Bpifrance Strasbourg since its creation, the French industrial company Viridian Lithium announces the official launch of its project to build the first French factory to produce battery-grade lithium. Viridian has selected the industrial site of Lauterbourg (Grand Est) with direct tri-modal access (port, rail, road) along the Rhine. France and Europe have the ambition to secure the value chain for the production of electric vehicles. The site will initially source from Latin America but hopes to be able to process local lithium in the future. By 2025, Viridian will have a production capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year of lithium hydroxide, with capacity for continued expansion to 100,000 tonnes per year by 2030. The project will create more than 250 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs.
