A new semiconductor “mega-factory” should create 1,000 jobs in Grenoble
France is taking a step forward in the manufacture of semiconductors, whose shortages have shaken economic spheres in recent months. The manufacturers GlobalFoundries (American) and STMicroelectronics (Franco-Italian) are going to build a factory near Grenoble to manufacture semiconductors. An investment amounting to 5.7 billion euros. Operated jointly by the two companies, these new production buildings will reach full capacity in 2026 and will employ a thousand engineers and technicians, in addition to the 4,700 already employed at the site in the Grésivaudan valley. As Bruno Le Maire points out: “This is the biggest non-nuclear industrial investment in recent decades and a big step for our industrial sovereignty. Europe plans to produce 20% of the world's semiconductors by 2030.”
