03 – A first Lithium mine in France

Imerys aims to become a major player in lithium in Europe, a world leader in mineral specialties for industry.
The company announces the launch of a major lithium exploitation project "the Emili project" on its Beauvoir site (Allier), which has been producing kaolin for ceramics since the end of the 19th century.
Once completed, the project will contribute to the ambitions of France and the European Union in terms of energy transition and it will also make it possible to increase the industrial sovereignty of France and Europe at a time when manufacturers battery companies and car manufacturers are highly dependent on imports of lithium, an essential element of the energy transition.
Imerys has a production target of 34,000 tonnes per year of lithium hydroxide, which would equip approximately 700,000 electric vehicles per year with a mine life of at least 25 years and a strong potential for 'increase.
