44 - CWS sets up a cargo wing factory in Saint-Nazaire
Computed Wing Sail, marine thruster specialist based in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (94), announces the creation of a factory to produce from 2024 in Saint-Nazaire rigid wings 36 meters long for 324 square meters to equip ships new or existing. An investment of more than €10 million to convert the port's fruit terminal. This technology would be capable of eliminating up to 50% of a boat's consumption, according to Bruno Toubiana, the co-founder of CWS, who foresees the creation of 200 to 250 jobs in Saint-Nazaire from 2025. To go quickly and to honor its first orders, the company will take up residence in the port's former fruit terminal, a 10,000 m2 building, with hygrometric conditions conducive to the transformation of carbon. CWS has developed a rigid wing "providing regular propulsion and having limited drift effects, even at high power". CWS must produce its first 6 wings in 2025 for the "Mervent 2025" project, winner of the Corimer government call for projects and aimed at manufacturing a sail-powered container ship. CWS therefore wants to reach a rate of 50 wings per year by the end of 2025 and is working on fundraising which it intends to complete this year to support its growth.
