Radial shaft seals and axial shaft seals are elastomer and/or plastic seals, with or without metal inserts and excitation springs, to be applied to shafts with relative rotational movement. They are mainly used for drivelines, axles, agricultural machinery and construction equipment, compressors and pumps, mixers, robotics, gear motors and others.

Rotary seals are devices widely used to prevent leakage or exchange of fluids (pasty, liquids and gases), to contain pressure and to exclude contamination of dust, moisture and dirt between two chambers subject to movement relative, either rotary or oscillating. However, the primary sealing function is only one of the requirements to be fulfilled by an effective and reliable radial shaft seal, as other characteristics are also essential.
