Mecanic Vallée is a cluster, or SPL (Local Productive System), labeled by DATAR since March 1999, and labeled cluster of exemplary companies, winner of the 2010 national selection, in an economic area of around 210 companies totaling 13,000 jobs. , distributed territorially over 2 regions (Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie) and 6 departments (Aveyron, Lot, Corrèze and Haute-Vienne since 2005, but also more recently the bordering parts of Cantal and Dordogne East) and in three main sectors of activities in mechanics: aeronautics, automotive equipment and machine tools.

Since 2014, Mecanic Vallée has also been the Mechanical Committee of the FIM.
