Tereos and Futerro team up to produce bioplastic
This is a first in Europe. Two industrial players who are experts in their respective fields are joining forces to develop a bio-industrial, circular and sustainable platform in Normandy, dedicated to green chemistry. Futerro, a pioneering Belgian company and leader specializing in the production of lactic acid, lactide and PLA (poly-lactic acid), and Tereos, a cooperative group and major global player in the sugar, ethanol and starchy products, have entered into a strategic agreement. The objective is to concentrate in a short circuit, on the same geographical territory, the extraction of dextrose (from sustainable French wheat), then its transformation into biosourced plastic, industrially compostable and recyclable. It is in the industrial-port zone of Port-Jérôme-Sur-Seine (76) that this unique center of excellence will see the light of day in 2027.
