Constellium opens new facility dedicated to aluminium recycling near Colmar
The Constellium group has inaugurated a new aluminium recycling plant in Neuf-Brisach (Haut-Rhin), on an existing site, with an investment of 130 million euros. This facility, supported by the French recovery plan, will increase the group's recycling capacity by 75%, adding 130,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium per year, from the automotive industry and used cans. Constellium, a global player in aluminium resulting from the dismantling of Pechiney, now has a total recycling capacity of 735,000 tonnes. Aluminium, essential for the energy transition thanks to its electrical conductivity, is also one of the most polluting metals when produced from raw materials. The plant should contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 400,000 tonnes, in response to the growing demand from the automotive and food industries for recycled materials. Constellium aims to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2030 and increase the share of recycled materials to more than 50%.
