Geohemp in Frangey: A new era for the plant industry in France
Winner of the France 2030 “First Factory” call for projects, GreenTech Géochanvre received €6 million in aid to build a hemp fiber processing unit in Frangey, Yonne. Located on a former Lafarge industrial site, this innovative plant will transform hemp fiber into plant fabrics using patented technology, without adjuvants and using only pressurized water. Created by Frédéric Roure, Géochanvre benefits from a total investment program of €24 million, spread over three phases until 2026. Committed to the ecological transition and the social and solidarity economy, the company supports local farmers with multi-year contracts. Driven by the demand for bio-sourced materials, Géochanvre is aiming for a six-fold increase in turnover and plans to produce 20 million m² of biotextiles each year, intended for agriculture, construction and packaging.
