Low Carbon Innovations
Bio-based an asset for low-carbon materials
Replacing traditional plastics with low-carbon materials allows a significant gain in terms of carbon footprint, through substitution effect (without taking into account CO2 sequestration). According to various studies carried out in Europe and the United States, the use of biosources would reduce the carbon impact by up to 50% for a large number of products. In this context, AllRiM has since 2017 initiated a vast research and development program with the objective of incorporating biosourced materials (of plant origin) for the production of transparent polyurethane materials, elastomers, foams, duromers and composites.
Bio-based polyurethanes have extremely high potential for being used as a partial or total replacement for polyurethanes based on raw materials of fossil origin. However, so far they have a low bio-based content, generally less than 50%.
ALLRIM is now able to offer new polyurethane materials, all patented, with biosourced rates between 50 and 100% for different applications:
-Transparent two-component coatings for the signage market
-Single-component transparent binders for coating stone aggregates, EPDM, rubber, etc.
-Soft foam for roll and plate type molded parts as well as for encapsulation of electronic parts
-Duromers and composites for the manufacture of technical parts of all sizes
