87 - Imerys produces an innovative talc for the automotive market

Main supplier of kaolin paste for porcelain makers in Limoges, Imerys has just inaugurated a new unit: a new atomizer which can dehydrate an innovative talc for the automotive market for an investment of 6 million euros. The production line produces one of Imerys' most innovative and durable flagship technologies: new generation HAR® (high form factor) talcs, intended for automotive lightweighting. These talcs have been designed to maintain or significantly improve properties such as stiffness, impact resistance and dimensional stability of thermoplastics. 11,000 tonnes of processed talc will leave the factory this year. Thanks to this new application, the Aixe site will increase its activity by 30%, aimed at electric cars for their light plastic needs.
