83 – The Compagnie des Amandes builds a cracking plant open to the whole sector: a complete service for producers
With the ambition to relocate almond farming in the region, Arnaud Montebourg, co-founder of the Compagnie des Amandes, launched the creation of a casserie in Signes, in the Var and will invest 12 million euros to create this tool. The company's only junkyard, it will be a competitive processing tool against wholesalers. "Today, the majority of French producers are turning to Spanish breakers (about 60 breakers) which have a cost price of around €1/kg of almonds", compared to the large Spanish factories, and thanks to its high capacity processing and storage facilities (3,000 tonnes of almonds), the company intends to position itself on a high value-added breakage offer for a competitive cost price "and access to the market of major national buyers seeking to buy large volumes at constant quality. The casserie will thus allow a buyer to find French almonds, in mass distribution or organic distribution circuits with the best standards of traceability and certification. "In four years, the company has become the leading French almond orchard with more than 200 hectares and aims to reach 500 hectares by the end of 2022. Within 3 years, the company plans to plant nearly 2,000 hectares of almond trees. »
