A Lesaffre factory in Denain to produce a food supplement against osteoarthritis

The Lesaffre group, a major player in yeast and biotechnology, announces the opening of a factory in Denain (Nord), on the former Usinor industrial site. This project aims to produce chondroitin, a natural substance used to relieve joint pain, currently mainly imported from China. The factory should create 100 to 150 jobs and strengthen French industrial sovereignty, while today more than 80% of chondroitin is manufactured in China. This project is part of the requalification of the Pierres-Blanches area, marking a new era for this region marked by the closure of Usinor. The joint efforts of the Porte du Hainaut agglomeration and Lesaffre, supported by the France Relance plan, have made it possible to combine economic development and ecological transition. Production should begin in 2026, symbolizing a bold bet on local industry and innovation in the service of health.
