Planing at high speeds leads to increased frictional heat , which makes the process vulnerable to fire . The Firefly PlanerGuard™ solution for high-speed planers focuses on detecting ignition sources at an early stage . Non-invasive water mist suppression is used to quickly and effectively extinguish the fire in order to avoid costly downtime and damage to the planer. In many cases, large amounts of chips are accumulated in and around the planer. Once ignited, these chips can cause rapid fires that cause considerable damage. The PlanerGuard™ system for open planers monitors the machine using flame detectors installed over the area to be monitored. Non-invasive water mist extinguishing aims to quickly and effectively suppress the fire, even in closed areas of an open planer.
