Toyota Onnaing celebrates 5 million vehicles produced and announces 600 permanent contracts to secure employment
The Toyota plant in Onnaing (Nord) is celebrating its 23rd anniversary by reaching a record: five million vehicles produced, an unprecedented feat in the European automotive industry. This success, notably thanks to the Yaris, the first model manufactured in France by volume, demonstrates Toyota's competitiveness in France. The Minister of Industry, Marc Ferracci, praised the exemplary partnership with local subcontractors. To mark this event, Toyota is announcing a major measure: 600 fixed-term and temporary workers will be converted to permanent contracts by the end of 2025, thus strengthening the site's current 5,000 employees. Around a hundred of these contracts will be signed by the end of 2024. The plant plans to sustain its activities for 20 years, with a possible extension if an innovative project on a global scale emerges. However, the switch to electric will take place on the current lines, with a view to stopping the combustion engines in 2035.
