59 - Verkor creates 1,200 jobs in Dunkirk with the building of a gigafactory
1,200 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs will be created in Dunkirk by 2030, with the establishment of a factory dedicated to the development of low-carbon battery cells. Once production has started, the Gigafactory will supply several customers, including Renault Group. It is in particular the proximity of the port of Dunkirk that was decisive in the choice to set up in Dunkirk. In a press release, the mayor of the city indicates that "the plant will produce, from 2024, 300,000 car batteries per year, which corresponds to 16 GWhs. It wishes to gradually increase in capacity to reach 32 GWhs and even potentially 50 GWhs in 2030, with batteries intended for other functions (scooters, planes, trucks, data centers, etc.). Construction of the Gigafactory is expected to begin in 2023.
