38 - Soitec has chosen France for its silicon carbide plant

While Singapore was a strongly considered option, the world leader in the design and production of innovative semiconductor materials has decided that this factory will be built…on its historic site in Bernin, near Grenoble. It will be intended primarily for the manufacture of new silicon carbide substrates meeting the major challenges of the electric vehicle and industrial markets. This extension will also support Soitec's activities in the field of silicon on insulator (SOI) in 300 mm. In total, the investment will be between 300 and 330 million euros, including 80 million for the buildings themselves. This project will eventually generate 400 jobs, and 1,200 indirect. Soitec now has 2,000 employees, including 1,600 in France.
