90 – McPhy gigafactory in Belfort: the project is progressing
Led by Grenoble's McPhy, the project to install a gigafactory of electrolyzers in Belfort with a view to promoting the development of green hydrogen is progressing with the validation of European funding. Indeed, in May 2021, McPhy, a Grenoble-based company specializing in low-carbon hydrogen production and distribution equipment, announced its project to set up a gigafactory of electrolyzers in Belfort with the aim of promoting the production of green hydrogen by alkaline electrolysis with a possible start in the first half of 2024 and a gradual increase in load until reaching 1GW per year. As McPhy points out, the construction of this new industrial infrastructure would represent an investment of 30 to 40 M€ and would lead to the creation, at full cost, of more than 500 jobs, including approximately 400 in France, and a hundred in Germany and Italy. Added to this would be several hundred indirect jobs in France and Europe. The company now announces that it will make its final investment decision “soon after final confirmation by the French authorities of the amount of public aid and the contractualization of the terms of the provision of this aid with Bpifrance”.
