EDF plans to sell solar pioneer Photowatt to start-up Carbon
EDF Renouvelables has reached an agreement with Lyon-based start-up Carbon for the sale of Photowatt, one of the last French manufacturers of photovoltaic panels. Carbon intends to rely on Photowatt to develop its expertise while waiting for its gigafactory in Fos-sur-Mer to come online at the end of 2026. The takeover project provides for an investment of €40 million, with the creation of a production unit capable of manufacturing one million solar panels per year by the end of 2025. Carbon is thus committed to maintaining the current 170 jobs at the Bourgoin-Jallieu site in Isère, and plans to create 30 new positions by 2026. EDF will continue to supply panels to support this "made in France" production.
