Orano inaugurates its first 4.0 factory dedicated to nuclear packaging in Cherbourg TN Eagle
The Orano group has inaugurated its new, fully automated 4.0 plant in Cherbourg for the assembly of its new-generation packaging, the TN Eagle. Designed for the transport and dry storage of spent nuclear fuel, this packaging is distinguished by its innovative design and modular structure. With its 5 meters long, 3 meters in diameter and a weight of 150 tons, the TN Eagle meets the needs of nuclear power plant operators while improving safety and competitiveness.
Equipped with technologically disruptive manufacturing processes, the TN Eagle Factory allows packaging to be assembled in 15 months, compared to more than 40 months for previous generations. The seamless design, combined with a reduction in the number of parts, optimizes the robustness and efficiency of the packaging.
This plant, with a surface area of 6,600 m², will be able to produce up to 30 packages per year. Supported by the France Relance program, this project strengthens Orano as a leader in innovative solutions for the nuclear sector.
