Monin syrups innovate with a water reuse system for sustainable production
In Bourges, the Monin syrup factory is innovating with the first water reuse unit based on filtration in France. The objective: to reduce water consumption by 68% by reusing wash water for industrial cleaning, thus avoiding the discharge of 38,000 m³ of effluent each year. This project, called ZEUS and supported by the European Commission, uses a two-stage filtration process: microfiltration retains solid residues, while nanofiltration and reverse osmosis capture the smallest molecules. The concentrated sugar is then transformed into biogas using a methanizer. With this investment of 6.5 million euros, Monin, which produces 60 million bottles per year, hopes to inspire other companies such as Nestlé and LVMH, already interested in this sustainable approach. Soon, other Monin factories around the world will also adopt this process.
