A board game factory in Lorraine: towards hundreds of thousands of boxes produced in France
A new factory dedicated to the production of board games will open in 2025 in Houdemont, near Nancy. Led by Blue Orange, Abeilles Éditions, and the Ebra press group, this project represents an investment of 5.5 million euros and plans to create a dozen jobs. Currently, the majority of games sold in France are produced abroad, but "Game in France" aims to relocate this manufacturing with a strategy focused on "made in France" and the standardization of formats to control costs.
The factory aims for an initial production of a few hundred thousand boxes, with an eventual objective of several million. In 2023, the French board game market generated 550 million euros in turnover, confirming the enthusiasm of the French. Lorraine could thus become a new strategic player in this growing sector.
