SLB: The smallest opto-electronic safety barriers in the world with integrated control
The new opto-electronic safety barriers of the SLB 240/440/450 series have an integrated control and are distinguished by an extremely compact construction. The SLB 240/440 modules with cable connection (dimensions WxHxL 28x32x72 mm) or with connector connection (WxHxL 28x32x91 mm) can easily be installed in very tight spaces and are quickly and easily mounted. The first two models have a range of 15 meters, while the SLB 450 (dxW 49x126 mm) has a range of 75 meters.
Single-beam safety light curtains are particularly suitable for securing confined danger areas – such as machines with small openings or slots, such as paper printing machines: here operators benefit from reliable protection, each interruption of the light beam triggers a signal that safely stops the dangerous movement of the machine.
A major advantage of the SLB 240/440/450 series: its versatility for the most varied assembly or handling applications in the wood, paper, typographic industry, in shelf magazines and machinery. packaging.
All SLB opto-electronic safety barriers have safe semiconductor outputs (2 PNP outputs) and can be integrated directly into the safety circuit without external safety processing. In accordance with IEC 61496, the new product range satisfies the requirements for type 2 or 4 applications. It also contributes to process protection, for example in rack warehouses, where deviations from preset positions recognized during the autonomous transport of the packaged products by means of a detection of objects, of height in order to avoid any collisions and deteriorations.
In addition, the SLB 450 model, which monitors access areas up to 75 meters away, is available with an optional integrated heater and withstands extreme cold use (down to -30°C). It is therefore suitable for outdoor use, for example in the wood or cement industry, in gravel pits and port areas.
All models are equipped with a visual configuration aid, which considerably simplifies commissioning. In addition, they accept quadruple coding, which allows the use of a maximum of four pairs of sensors while avoiding any reciprocal disturbance in the event of the use of several opto-electronic barriers within the same application. Parameterization is carried out without complex tools (computer type or a commissioning system), a simple control device such as a push-button is sufficient. For operation, Configuration, Automatic and Restart modes as well as a Diagnostic mode are available.
“By developing the new SLB series, we complete our range of opto-electronic protection products. Depending on the size and complexity of the hazardous area, the customer can choose between SLB series photoelectric barriers, SLG multi-beam photoelectric barriers and SLC light curtains”, explains Klaus Schuster, responsible opto-electronic safety products at Schmersal. “Depending on the application, these opto-electronic series can then be combined with safety relay modules, safety controllers or AS-i safety components. In this way, we are able to offer our customers complete security systems, tailor-made solutions adapted to the requirements of each application. »
