STEUTE
Limit switch for ATEX zones
In offshore industries, no less than four factors make the operating conditions of switches extremely difficult: the risk of explosion, the high levels of mechanical wear, the corrosive environment and the often sub-zero temperatures. The position switches of the Ex 97 range from steute have been developed to operate reliably under these conditions.
With dimensions in accordance with DIN EN 50047 , these limit switches have been tested and approved according to ATEX and IECEx directives for use in Ex zones 1 and 2 (gas) and 21 and 22 (dust) . They can be used down to -60°C. For example, the high waterproof rating (IP 66) must be unalterable at sub-zero temperatures, including the 7 joule shock test. That's why the housing is made of high quality fiberglass reinforced plastic . The surface is fully vulcanized, and the actuator seal has a redundant isolation system comprising an external seal sleeve, suitable for low temperatures, and an internal Teflon seal. Sealing materials and lubricants used have been validated by their manufacturer for temperatures down to -95°C and -75°C respectively. These values provide sufficient margin for the temperature of -60°C certified by steute . The user can thus be certain that the position switches will operate reliably , even under extreme ambient conditions.
Thanks to the wide variety of actuators offered (pushbutton, roller plunger, roller lever, parallel lever, rotary lever, adjustable rotary lever, push button, etc.) and their compact dimensions, Ex switches are very versatile and can easily integrate into an existing automation system. They are available in slow-action or forced-open versions. In addition, thanks to their anti-static plastic composition, no earthing or equipotential bonding is necessary .
The characteristics of the Ex 97 range perfectly illustrate the type of Extreme switches developed by steute. This range is not only suitable for applications in the chemical industry and energy technologies , but also, for example, for position control of flaps and valves used in the hydrocarbon sector (offshore and onshore platforms) and on ships moving in arctic regions .
